Biden & USCIRF should take cognizance of rising attacks on Churches & Christians in India

A Church was attacked by Bajrangdal (part of Hindutva forces) in India’s capital Dwarka, New Delhi on Sunday November 28, 2021 (as reported at https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Delhi/arnabjit-church/article37740729.ece and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzQ4T_ICfHc). On October 3 also a Church was attacked in Roorkee as reported at https://thewire.in/communalism/roorkee-church-attack-victims-fear-legal-aid  and it has also been reported that such attacks are rising in India and more than 300 attacks have taken place against Christians in 2021 as reported at  https://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2021/oct/22/attacks-on-christians-on-rise-across-india-300-cases-registered-in-2021-2374374.html .

 

Such attacks will not stop merely by victims approaching police or even judiciary (though such legal formalities are necessary and should be fulfilled). Unless the fundamental right to freedom of religion is enforced in India [where conversions will not be stopped even by legislating against it and by giving absurd excuse of coercion, allurement, love-Jihad etc by Hindutva forces], the communal situation will not improve in India.

 

When Indian Muslims ( about 15 % of population) couldn’t prevent their persecution mainly starting from Ayodhya movement since late eighties (and Babri-masjid demolition in 1992) and resultant  massacre of thousands of innocent Muslims (including in 2002 at Gujarat under the watch of PM Modi who was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat) and even Dalits (SC & ST 25 % population) are not spared by the high-handedness of so-called upper castes of Hindu order (as mentioned at https://chauthiduniya.com/another-gang-rape-of-dalit-girl-and-murder-of-entire-family-will-stop-only-when-dalits-evaluate-not-merely-their-political-parties-but-religions-too/ ) then how the Indian Christians ( merely 2.5 % of population) will stop the high handedness against them by Hindus / Hindutva forces. At the top of it the Indian Christians are committing one blunder when they have unnecessarily become defensive and say that we don’t do and don’t believe in religious conversion. Rather they should say that Indians have every constitutional right to convert to Christianity or to any other religion, if they chose to.

 

The Indian Christians (like Indian Muslims) are also afraid of Hindutva forces but Indian Christians have one advantage because Christian of Western world are ruling the world and they can easily put the communal forces of India at their ‘proper’ place if they want to. Hence the Indian Christians should take help from the Christianity of the West especially from the leader of ‘ liberal Western secular democracy’ the USA. The USA can be a crucial factor for bringing true secularism in India if the US-Christianity takes interest in helping at least the Indian – Christianity through US-administration, US-Congress / ‘US Commission on International Religious Freedom’.
