The first edition of Khursheed was held on Monday, and Hindi film stars, bureaucrats, and admirers of Urdu poetry gathered under one roof over the evening.
“I have never been to such an event in my life” this was the reaction of almost all the celebrities who attended “Khursheed” a traditional Mushaira. Professor Fauzia Arshi, a renowned name in the Hindi film industry took the initiative of hosting a Mushaira. The first edition of ‘Khursheed’ was held in Mumbai exclusively for VIPs & Celebrities on 14th November. The event was co-hosted by Sachin Pilgaonkar (actor) and Fauzia Arshi (filmmaker & entrepreneur). The evening paid tribute to a poetess who was poetry herself, Meena Kumari, the legendary actress of Indian cinema.
Jaya Bachchan, Raj Babbar, Govind Nihalani, Rumi Jaffery, Sonu Nigam, Riteish Deshmukh, Divya Dutta, Mitali Bhupinder Singh, Satish Shah, Paintal, Sumeet Raghavan, Anup Soni, Juhi Babbar, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Shreya Pilgaonkar, Inam-ul Haq, Ismail Darbar, Ali Asghar, Rajeshwari Sachdev, Sudesh Bhosle, Bharati Achrekar, Nasir Khan, Shahbaz Khan, Sandeep Mahaveer, Salim Arif, Devika Pandit, Dr Tandon, V K Sharma Ex-ED RBI, Suresh Sharma and many more were noticed enjoying each and every ‘sher'(couplet). “this kind of event will ease out the stress in the society” said Santosh Bhartiya a public intellectual and Ex-Member of Parliament.
The audience was enthralled by the poetry of new-age poets like Ubaid Azam Azmi, Ismail ‘Raaz’, Vijay Tiwari, A. M Turaz, Vaibhav Joshi, Ahmed Wasi, and Sachin ‘Shafaq’. The highlight of the Mushaira was Sachin Pilgaonkar, who recited his poetry and amazed the audience. Sachin is known as Sachin ‘Shafaq’ in the world of poetry while Fauzia Arshi mesmerised the audience with her melodious voice as she sang the ghazal penned by Meena Kumari. Nazar Bijnori conducted the evening.
On this occasion, Mahesh Savani (Industrialist) & Shailesh Bhatt (businessman) were felicitated with the title ‘Khursheed – The Shining Humanitarian’ and ‘Khursheeed – The Shining Businessman’ respectively for their outstanding contributions to society. Fauzia Arshi has decided to honour such extraordinary people with the title of ‘Khursheed’ in each edition of the Khursheed event.
This mushaira had a mesmerizing influence on the audience. This is another aspect of Fauzia Arshi’s entrepreneurship and artistic talents. The event was organised by Cantabae Education and Welfare Society and DML Studio’z Pvt Ltd. Khursheed’ is an initiative named after Khursheed Iqbal a great academician who happens to be Fauzia Arshi’s Mother and this event will be held every 4th month” said the young COO of DML Erem Tariq Arshi.
